Contrary to popular misconception Freemasonry is neither a religious or political organisation. It is not a substitute for or an alternative to any religious faith, nor is it Anti-Religious.
Freemasonry does not align itself with any political party or subscribe to any political view point. Discussion on matters pertaining to religion and politics is strictly forbidden at all Masonic Meetings.
Freemasonry is not a secret society but a society possessing secrets which are used as a means of recognition amongst its members.
Our times and places of meeting our known to the Civil Authorities. We are in essence a part of society not a part from it.
What then is Freemasonry?
Essential qualifications for membership are that a man should be of good character law abiding and express a belief in a "Supreme Being." The order through its symbolism seeks to enrich its members by encouraging the virtues of kindness tolerance benevolence respect and understanding towards its fellowman thereby contributing to the fabric of society.
Charitable work is an integral part of Freemasonry and practiced on a voluntary basis. Freemasons are taught to care not only for their own members but for the community as a whole through charitable giving and voluntary effort.
Over the past ten years the sum of One Million Pounds has been raised by freemasons of the Irish Constitution to fund vital research in the field of medicine.
